The Bixby Spartans will square off against the Tahlequah Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Bixby is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
Bixby blew Durant out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Friday Durant got their revenge. The Spartans fell just short of the Lions by a score of 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Spartans have suffered since September 3, 2024.
Meanwhile, while Tahlequah put up some runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Jenks. The Tigers came out on top against the Trojans by a score of 3-0. The game was the first time the Tigers have beaten the Trojans on their field since August 13, 2016.
Nobody will forget Zoie Griffin's heroic performance anytime soon (especially Jenks' batters): she turned in a perfect game. Griffin has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 21 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lilly Garcia, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in September. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Stark, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Tahlequah hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 34 consecutive games.
Tahlequah has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 22 of their last 26 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 29-5-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Bixby, their loss dropped their record down to 14-17.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Bixby hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .319. However, it's not like Tahlequah struggles in that department as they've averaged .346. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Bixby came out on top in a nail-biter against Tahlequah when the teams last played back in September of 2022, sneaking past 5-3. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
