Basketball Recap: Scripps Ranch Beats University City for Their Fourth Straight Win

Scripps Ranch came tearing into Friday's contest with three straight wins and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the University City Centurions by a score of 40-29. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 195th, while the Centurions are ranked 561st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Scripps Ranch to victory were Clare Valentine and Ree Ree Davis. Valentine shot 4-for-7 from deep and dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds, while Davis went 5 of 9 on her way to 12 points along with six boards and four steals. Davis has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 13 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Marissa Antonio, who posted five points and four steals.

Courtlyn Mitchell and Kianna Lefear certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Mitchell earned 11 points and five rebounds, while Lefear put up seven points in addition to ten boards and three steals. Violet Mendoza also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Scripps Ranch's record now sits at 16-6. As for University City, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-15 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Scripps Ranch will face off against Cathedral Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Scripps Ranch is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.5 points per game this season. As for University City, they will square off against Mira Mesa at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
