Soccer Game Preview: San Marcos vs. Sage Hill

The San Marcos Royals will take on the Sage Hill Lightning at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

San Marcos is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. Their defense stepped up to hand Garden Grove a 5-0 shutout. The score was close at the half, but the Royals pulled away in the second half with four goals.

They hit Garden Grove with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Zeina Matni (2), Kate Selby (2), and Rio Chesluk.

Meanwhile, Sage Hill was able to grind out a solid victory over Linfield Christian on Wednesday, taking the game 2-0. Given the Lightning's advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 159th, while the Lions are ranked 372nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

The win made it two in a row for San Marcos and bumps their season record up to 11-5. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those two games. As for Sage Hill, their record now sits at 9-3.
