Baseball Game Preview: Fremont Packers vs. Holton Red Devils

The Fremont Packers will face off against the Holton Red Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Holton took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Fremont, who comes in off a win.

Fremont took a seven-run loss the last time they faced off against Reed City, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Packers had just enough and edged out the Coyotes 10-8. The high-scoring effort was just what the Packers needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

The team relied heavily on Deagan Klimek, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Fremont's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-1 (and 6-13-1 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Coltyn Zerlaut, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Mason County Central hit Holton with a 12-run fourth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Red Devils came up short against the Spartans, falling 15-5.

Holton saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joey Bayne, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run. Fisher Mirkle was another, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Holton's defeat dropped their record down to 11-14-1. As for Fremont, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 12-14-1.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Fremont has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Holton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Everything went Fremont's way against Holton when the teams last played last Thursday, as Fremont made off with a 13-5 win. Do the Packers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Red Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
