Softball Recap: Wilcox County Takes Down Bowdon in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Wilcox County had no problem doing just that on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bowdon Red Devils, sneaking past 2-1.

Shamauri Martin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 13 Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.6 strikeouts per game.

At the plate, Wilcox County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Macy Metcalf, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Wilcox County is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Bowdon, they dropped their record down to 13-14 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road.
