Football Recap: Deming Takes a Loss

Deming had lost six straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-8 to make it seven. They took a blow against Lovington, falling 46-12. Having soared to a lofty 42 points in the game before, Deming couldn't push the score so high this time.

When it comes to explaining why Deming lost, don't look at Joan Ramirez. Despite the final result, he picked up 151 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Ramirez's receiving production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 109 receiving yards.

As for Lovington, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 44.2 points over those games.

Lovington was led to victory by Jayden Gutierrez and Aidan Ortiz. Gutierrez threw for 175 yards and three TDs on only 13 passes, while Ortiz rushed for 129 yards and a pair of scores on only seven carries. Gutierrez's passing game has become a key predictor of Lovington's success: the team is 3-1 when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 2-3 otherwise. Elijah Rivero was Gutierrez's top target, picking up 74 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Deming wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 27-7 defeat against Gadsden on the 31st. As for Lovington, they have also already played their next contest, a 54-0 victory against Santa Teresa on the 31st.
