Football Recap: Wake Forest Beats Knightdale for Their Third Straight Victory + How To Watch

Wake Forest extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping them up to 4-4. They were the clear victors by a 48-24 margin over the Knightdale Knights. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by 24 points or more this season.

Micah Olu continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 233 yards and five scores while picking up 7.5 yards per carry, and also picking up 73 receiving yards and one TD. Those 233 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Landen Perry also helped out as he racked up 120 rushing yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Wake Forest was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 404 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Wake Forest's defense stepped up as well, laying out Jamel Perry 4.5 times. Josiah Sturdivant refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. Xavier Taylor was another major factor on D, picking up a sack, making eight total tackles (2.0 for loss), and defending one pass.

As for Knightdale, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 237th, while Wake Forest is ranked 117th).

When it comes to explaining why Knightdale lost, don't look at Perry. Despite the final result, he threw for 336 yards and three touchdowns. Perry has become a key player for the Knights: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least 300 passing yards, but 0-5 otherwise. 97 of Perry's passing yards were hauled in by Jaylen Knight, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Wake Forest will square off against Franklinton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Red Rams' defense has only allowed 14.6 points per game this season, so the Cougars' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Knightdale, they will challenge Heritage at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Knights will be up against the Huskies' rather soft defense (which has allowed 30 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
