Baseball Recap: West Hall's Win Ends Seven-Game Losing Streak on the Road

West Hall lost to Monroe Area on Friday, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. West Hall came out on top against Monroe Area by a score of 5-3 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).

Marcus Pugh made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in February. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances. He has become a key player for West Hall: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-11 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brett Sturm, who got on base in four of his six plate appearances with one RBI.

West Hall's win ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-12. As for Monroe Area, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Hall will challenge Oconee County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Oconee County's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so West Hall's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Monroe Area, they will take on East Hall at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. East Hall has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.61 runs per game on average), something Monroe Area will no doubt try to take advantage of.
