Baseball Game Preview: Benton Central Bison vs. Seeger Patriots

The Benton Central Bison will take on the Seeger Patriots at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Benton Central came out on top against Kankakee Valley on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run sixth inning. The Bison took their game against the Kougars 6-2.

Mason Schutter made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nolan Winkler, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs. He has become a key player for Benton Central: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-16 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Seeger had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They came out on top against the Red Ramblers by a score of 7-3.

The victory got Seeger back to even at 11-11. As for Benton Central, their win bumped their record up to 8-16.
