Preview: La Quinta Aztecs vs. Bolsa Grande Matadors

La Quinta has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Bolsa Grande Matadors at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Bolsa Grande took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on La Quinta, who comes in off a win.

La Quinta posted their biggest win since December 1, 2023 on Wednesday. They claimed a resounding 54-25 win over Rancho Alamitos at home.

La Quinta's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaitlyn Mai, who scored 12 points along with four steals. Katie Nguyen was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with two steals.

Meanwhile, Bolsa Grande's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their 15th straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 60-11 loss at the hands of Los Amigos. Bolsa Grande was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 29-8.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Bolsa Grande struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Los Amigos posted 12 assists.

La Quinta's victory bumped their record up to 10-12. As for Bolsa Grande, they bumped their record down to 1-19 with that loss, which was their 16th straight on the road.

Friday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy match: La Quinta have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 29.5 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Bolsa Grande, though, as they've been averaging only 25.8 rebounds per game. Given La Quinta's sizeable advantage in that area, Bolsa Grande will need to find a way to close that gap.

Everything came up roses for La Quinta against Bolsa Grande in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 as the squad secured a 41-9 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for La Quinta since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
