Basketball Recap: Motivation Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Joyce Cassell and Taylor Matheny

Motivation was the 58-40 winner over Prep Charter when they last played one another back in February of 2019, but their luck changed this time around. The Motivation Jaguars took a 55-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Prep Charter Huskies.

Motivation's loss on Wednesday came despite strong showings from Taylor Matheny and Joyce Cassell. Matheny went 10 for 20 en route to 24 points, while Cassell posted 19 points. Matheny's afternoon made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Grace Thurmond also deserves some recognition as she scored her first point of the season.

Motivation's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Prep Charter, the win got them back to even at 4-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Motivation will square off against Frankford at 3:15 p.m. on January 22nd. Frankford will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Motivation surely won't give up without a fight. Prep Charter has already played their next matchup (against Overbrook), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
