Basketball Recap: Purnell Swett Rams vs. Fairmont Golden Tornadoes
Purnell Swett kicked off their season on the road on Tuesday and hit a couple of potholes. They fell 62-55 to the Fairmont Golden Tornadoes. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it four in a row.
Several Rams players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jeremiah Barnes, who posted 14 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Kaleb Locklear, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and ten boards.
Fairmont got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ayden Cummings out in front who dropped a triple-double with 17 points, ten rebounds, and ten assists. Those ten assists gave Cummings a new career-high. Xavion Pittman was another key player, dropping a double-double with 13 points and 16 boards.
The victory got Fairmont back to even at 1-1.
Purnell Swett wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 79-48 loss against North Brunswick on the 21st. As for Fairmont, they have also already played their next game, a 77-48 defeat against Lumberton on the 21st.
