MaxPreps Top 25 high school football scores: No. 2 Bishop Gorman gets another statement win, beats No. 13 Corona Centennial 56-28

No. 2 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nev.) made its case on why they are the best team in high school football with a dominant 56-28 win over No. 13 Centennial (Corona, Calif.). It was the second straight week they took down a MaxPreps Top 25 opponent. Last week, they beat No. 6 Central (Miami) 39-35.

The Las Vegas power improved to 4-0 and all four wins have come against out-of-state competition. Three are currently ranked in the MaxPreps Top 25. They beat No. 22 Corner Canyon (Draper, Utah) 63-42 to open the season. They also beat Long Beach Poly (Long Beach, Calif.) 60-15. The Jackrabbits are ranked at No. 41 in our expanded top 100.

In the only other MaxPreps Top 25 matchup, No. 7 Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood, Fla.) made a big statement beating No. 19 Bergen Catholic (Oradell, N.J.) 61-21. Five-star Ohio State commit Jeremiah Smith had a monster night hauling in 16 receptions for 316 yards and three touchdowns. The Lions improved to 3-0 and have No. 16 American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.) and No. 6 Central (Miami) the next two weeks.

No. 10 St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio) faced its first in-state opponent and pulled out a 34-33 win over rival Elder (Cincinnati). Junior kicker Kellen Moyer made the game-winning 29-yard field goal in the final seconds to improve to 4-0. Backup quarterback Thomas Csanyi led the back-to-back Division 1 state champs on the final drive after replacing Casey Bullock, who suffered an injury earlier in the fourth quarter. The Eagles have another big road test next week at Washington (Massillon, Ohio). They are the only team that has beat St. Edward's since 2022.

Cocoa (Fla.) looked like they were going to pull off the biggest upset of the weekend after No. 11 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) turned it over on downs with just over a minute left, trailing 36-34. The Tigers took over at their own 42 with 1:27 left and the Raiders only had one timeout left. A couple of penalties on Cocoa's ensuing drive stopped the clock, allowing St. Thomas Aquinas to have one more opportunity.

Aquinas forced a punt and returned it to the Cocoa 38 with 22 seconds left. Andrew Indorf connected with Chance Robinson on the first play, setting up the Raiders at the 1-yard line. After an incomplete pass, Francesco Pileggi made a 19-yard field goal with six seconds remaining to pull off the 37-36 win to improve to 2-1.   

Chandler (Ariz.) handed No. 20 Orange Lutheran (Orange, Calif.) its first loss of the season with a 35-10 win. Expect the Wolves to jump into the MaxPreps Top 25 national rankings on Monday. They improved to 3-0 and have outscored the opposition 140-23.

No. 3 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) handed St. Frances Academy (Baltimore, Md.) its fourth straight loss to begin the 2023 season with a 37-14 win. The defending MaxPreps National Champs are now 4-0 and finish non-league play next Saturday at Kahuku (Hawaii).

No. 4 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) improved to 3-0 with a 34-14 win at Ben Davis (Indianapolis). The Ascenders now own wins over No. 12 St. Joseph's Prep (Philadelphia), Lipscomb Academy (Nashville, Tenn.) and the Giants.

St. Joseph's Prep (Philadelphia) cruised to a 45-24 road win at Lakeland (Fla.). The Hawks have outscored their last two opponents 87-24 after a 17-14 loss against IMG Academy.
