Recap: Southmont Mounties vs. Sheridan Blackhawks

It was a good run, but the Southmont Mounties unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Wednesday. They received a tough blow as they fell 52-37 to Sheridan. Southmont was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Blackhawks apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2022.

When it comes to explaining why Southmont lost, one person who can't be blamed is Delorean Mason. Despite the final result, she scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That was a full 37.8% of Southmont's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Layla Gomez, who scored five points along with five rebounds.

Kenzie Garner continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Sheridan, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 12 rebounds. Garner is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 17 or more in the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Cecilia Timme, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Southmont's loss dropped their record down to 12-8. As for Sheridan, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southmont will take on the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Sheridan, they will be playing at home against the Titans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Taylor has now lost 12 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 29.
