Bell is a perfect 9-0 against Phelps Architecture, Construction & Engineering since November of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Griffins will take on the Panthers at 6:00 p.m. Bell is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.
Bell is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of District of Columbia's top teams: McKinley Tech, who was ranked 20th at the time (Bell was ranked tenth). The Griffins took their contest on Saturday with ease, bagging a 42-0 win over the Trainers. Considering the Griffins have won three matchups by more than 23 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Bell's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Antonio Washington, who rushed for 53 yards and a pair of scores, and also caught one touchdown. Washington also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, forcing one fumble, making six total tackles, and defending one pass. Another signal caller making a difference was Will Hewitt, who threw for 234 yards and two TDs while picking up 11.7 yards per attempt.
Meanwhile, after only six points in their last game, Phelps Architecture, Construction & Engineering made sure to put some points up on the board against Ron Brown on Friday. The Panthers strolled past the Monarchs with points to spare, taking the game 40-26. The Panthers' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Bell better keep an eye on Zephan Pittman. He was instrumental in Phelps Architecture, Construction & Engineering's win, throwing for 191 yards and three touchdowns on only ten passes. Pittman's passing game has become a key predictor of the Panthers' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 0-3 otherwise.
Bell's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Phelps Architecture, Construction & Engineering, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Thursday's contest might be decided on the ground. Bell has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 173.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Phelps Architecture, Construction & Engineering struggles in that department as they've been averaging 156.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Thursday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Bell against Phelps Architecture, Construction & Engineering in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 51-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Griffins since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
