Basketball Recap: Central City Value Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Central City Value waltzed into their contest on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They snuck past the Orthopaedic Vipers with a 24-19 victory. The score was all tied up 15-15 at the break, but the Jaguars were the (much) better team in the second half.

Central City Value's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jocelyn Gutierrez led the charge by putting up nine points and four steals. Another player making a difference was Natasha Garcia, who posted seven points in addition to seven steals and five boards.

Central City Value smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 23 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Central City Value pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 18.3 points per game. As for Orthopaedic, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.

Central City Value and Orthopaedic's offenses will be put to the test in their next games. Central City Value will challenge USC-MAE at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, a team that's only allowed 23.33 points per game. Central City Value's defense has only allowed 22.5 points per game this season, so Orthopaedic's offense will have their work cut out for them.
