Softball Recap: Palmer Takes a Loss

Palmer extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to nine on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-7. They lost 18-1 to the Canon City Tigers. The Terrors were not able to make up for their loss to the Tigers from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.

Palmer saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lydia Wilson, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

As for Canon City, their win ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-10. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Canon City's side, Bentley Brandt made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Brandt has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Canon City got a massive performance out of Cammi Leis, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI Leis has posted since back in September of 2024. Another player making a difference was Allisyn Gasseling, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Coming up, Palmer will welcome Coronado at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.78 runs per game on average), something the Terrors will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Canon City, they will venture away from home to take on Cheyenne Mountain at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Red-Tailed Hawks have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season.
