Basketball Recap: Brianna Lopez Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Calvary Chapel

Godinez Fundamental won the last time they faced Calvary Chapel and things went their way on Thursday too. The Godinez Fundamental Grizzlies walked away with a 56-43 win over the Calvary Chapel Eagles. Given the Grizzlies' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 343rd, while the Eagles are ranked 803rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Godinez Fundamental's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brianna Lopez, who posted seven points along with nine boards and seven assists. Those nine rebounds gave Lopez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Valeria Arcos, who had 17 points.

Godinez Fundamental's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 14-11. As for Calvary Chapel, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 14 of their last 17 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-20 record this season.

Godinez Fundamental will challenge Segerstrom at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Calvary Chapel, they will square off against Valencia at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
