Football Recap: Gilbert Takes a Loss

Gilbert's last matchup with Mountain Pointe could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's game on Friday. The Tigers were outmatched by the Pride and fell 52-20. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Pride recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Gilbert didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Denim Smith and Jonathan Guy. Smith has become a key player for Gilbert: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least one interception, but 0-3 otherwise.

Mountain Pointe got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Mekhi Hodge out in front who picked up 38 receiving yards and two TDs.

Gilbert's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Mountain Pointe, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Gilbert will square off against Red Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mountain Pointe, they will challenge Skyline at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pride will be up against the Coyotes' rather soft defense (which has allowed 36.63 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
