Football Recap: St. Thomas Academy Picks Up Seventh Straight Win at Home

St. Thomas Academy extended their postseason success on Friday against Two Rivers. They enjoyed a cozy 33-19 win over the Warriors. Given the Cadets' advantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota football rankings (they are ranked fifth, while the Warriors are ranked 48th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

St. Thomas Academy was led to victory by Tristan Karl and Dominic Baez. Karl rushed for 82 yards and one touchdown, while Baez rushed for 147 yards while picking up 8.6 yards per carry. Baez was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 55 yards. Teddy Petschel was in the mix as well, providing St. Thomas Academy with one score.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: St. Thomas Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 251 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.

St. Thomas Academy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Matthew Wagner and Todd Rogalski. St. Thomas Academy received some extra help from Petschel, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

St. Thomas Academy's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-0. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 37.1 points over those games. As for Two Rivers, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.

Looking ahead, St. Thomas Academy will face off against Cretin-Derham Hall on Thursday. Two Rivers does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
