Football Recap: Texico Triumphs

Texico's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 31-16 victory over the Olton Mustangs. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Wolverines' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 24th in New Mexico, while the Mustangs are ranked 905th in Texas).

Cross Figg had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 229 yards and one touchdown while picking up 12.1 yards per carry, and also threw for 181 yards and one TD on only 15 passes. His longest rush was for an impressive 65 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Maverick Hawkins made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Olton's loss came despite strong showings from Brady Azam and Zayden Falcon. Azam threw for 154 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Falcon picked up 81 receiving yards.

Texico's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Olton, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-2.

Texico has already played their next match, a 34-0 loss against Stratford on the 19th. As for Olton, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 62-21 defeat against Ropes on the 19th.
