Baseball Recap: Grayslake North Triumphs

Grayslake North took an 11-run defeat the last time they faced off against Johnsburg, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Knights came out on top in a nail-biter against the Skyhawks on Friday, sneaking past 4-2. The victory was some much needed relief for the Knights as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Andrew Winling spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on eight hits and racked up seven Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Grayslake North is 4-2 when he allows at most two walks, but 4-12 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Nate Wilson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples and two runs. Those two triples gave him a new career-high.

Grayslake North picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 8-14. As for Johnsburg, their loss dropped their record down to 15-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Grayslake North will face off against Lake Forest at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Knights' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Scouts have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season. As for Johnsburg, they will square off against Sandwich at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
