Basketball Recap: Adelanto Takes a Loss

Adelanto was the 59-39 winner over Victor Valley when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Adelanto Saints took a 51-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Victor Valley Jackrabbits on Monday. The Saints have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Adelanto still got an impressive performance from Nyomi Sanchez, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 12 rebounds. Sanchez has been hot recently, having posted 11 or more boards the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Dae?Ani Durio, who posted seven points in addition to nine rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Adelanto smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Victor Valley was led to victory by Arnetta Ealy Newton and Eris Roberts. Ealy Newton put up 19 points along with eight boards and six steals, while Roberts earned 17 points. Those 17 points gave Roberts a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Liarah Craft, who scored four points in addition to eight rebounds and five blocks.

Adelanto's defeat dropped their record down to 7-14. As for Victor Valley, they pushed their record up to 12-10 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Adelanto does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Victor Valley has also already played their next contest, a 63-32 loss against Silverado on the 5th.
