Basketball Recap: Morgan Clifton's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Calaveras over Sacramento

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Calaveras can now relate to. They lost 50-26 to the Sacramento Dragons on Tuesday. The Red Hawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Several Red Hawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Morgan Clifton, who posted six points and three steals. The dominant performance also gave Clifton a new career-high in boards (four). Makenna Neelans was another key player, putting up no points and five steals.

Even though they lost, Calaveras smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in seven consecutive matchups.

It was another big night for La Ne Dunn, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 20 rebounds for Sacramento. Dunn has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last 21 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Chrisshaya Haygood, who scored seven points along with 11 rebounds and four steals.

Calaveras' loss dropped their record down to 17-11. As for Sacramento, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-9 record this season.

Calaveras does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Sacramento, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 29-26 defeat against Marysville on the 20th.
