Basketball Game Preview: Christopher Cougars vs. Willow Glen Rams

The Christopher Cougars will head out on the road to square off against the Willow Glen Rams at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Christopher is headed into Tuesday's contest hungry for a win as their strong season has now been derailed by two straight defeats. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 55-50 heartbreaker at the hands of Evergreen Valley.

Meanwhile, Willow Glen had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.3 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They enjoyed a cozy 61-43 win over the Saints.

Willow Glen's win came from a few key players Christopher will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Natalia Valerio, who went 8 for 15 on her way to 23 points in addition to six assists and six boards. The match was her third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucia Diaz, who went 5 of 7 on her way to 10 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Willow Glen smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

Willow Glen's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 42 points. As for Christopher, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-3.

Christopher took their win against Willow Glen in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 by a conclusive 42-22. Does Christopher have another victory up their sleeve, or will Willow Glen turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
