Lowell and Oakridge are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2023, but likely not for long. The Red Devils will be playing at home against the Warriors at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. Lowell will be strutting in after a victory while Oakridge will be coming in after a defeat.
Lowell is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 23-4 margin over North Douglas/Elkton on Friday. Considering the Red Devils have won nine matchups by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Adam Davis and Ben Thurman made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Davis pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Meanwhile, Thurman pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances. At bat, Davis went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases and three runs, while Thurman got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, seven RBI, and four runs. That's the most hits Davis has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Wyatt Johnson, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, five runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brenden Myers, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Lowell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last three contests, Oakridge finally came back down to earth on Friday. They came up short against Umpqua Valley Christian, falling 12-2. The Warriors' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Oakridge saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cole Walters, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Lowell has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Oakridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-9.
Sunday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Lowell has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .451. However, it's not like Oakridge struggles in that department as they've averaged .453. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
