Basketball Recap: Valhalla Comes Up Short

Valhalla played a tough match on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Mt. Carmel Sundevils and fell 68-35. The loss leaves the Norsemen without a win on the season.

Several Norsemen players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ava Miles, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds. That's the most points Miles has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Songoli EkwoSi, who posted three points in addition to 20 boards and seven blocks.

Mt. Carmel's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Grace Weede led the charge by putting up 18 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Ariana Gonzalez was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds.

Valhalla's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Mt. Carmel, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-6.

Valhalla and Steele Canyon will compete for holiday cheer at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Valhalla is facing Steele Canyon at the right time seeing as Steele Canyon is stuck on a three-game losing streak. Mt. Carmel will take on Poway in a holiday battle at at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
