Softball Recap: Ord Chanticleers vs. Cozad Haymakers
Ord extended their losing streak to ten on Saturday, dropping them down to 5-22. They came up short against the Cozad Haymakers, falling 18-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Haymakers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-7 two weeks ago.
Chloe Kokes made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Payton Whited was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
As for Cozad, they now have a winning record of 12-11. Considering they have won seven matchups by more than eight runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
On Cozad's side, Sara Howell made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Howell has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI.
In other batting news, Cozad let Aubrey Hammerlun and Henessy Cargill run wild. Hammerlun got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, while Cargill went 1-for-2 with four RBI and two runs. That's the most runs Cargill has posted since September 4th. Lola Bennett also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Ord wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 21-12 victory against Polk County on the 27th. As for Cozad, they have also already played their next game, an 8-0 loss against Kearney Catholic on the 27th.
