Soccer Game Preview: Washington-Wilkes vs. Lake Oconee Academy

Washington-Wilkes is 1-9 against Lake Oconee Academy since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Washington-Wilkes Tigers are taking a road trip to challenge the Lake Oconee Academy Titans at 7:30 p.m. Washington-Wilkes has given up an average of 5 goals per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week.

Washington-Wilkes is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game last Friday. They came up short against Lincoln County, falling 9-3. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia soccer rankings (they are ranked 311th, while the Red Devils are ranked 131st).

Emiliano Aburto and Johnathan Naranjo scored all three of Washington-Wilkes' goals, bringing their combined season tally to four goals.

Meanwhile, Lake Oconee Academy kept a clean sheet against Greene County on Friday. Everything went their way against the Tigers as they made off with a 9-0 win. Considering the Titans have won four games by more than two goals this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

The victory made it two in a row for Lake Oconee Academy and bumps their season record up to 4-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those two contests. As for Washington-Wilkes, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.

Washington-Wilkes might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Lake Oconee Academy in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can Washington-Wilkes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
