Football Game Preview: Lancaster Tigers vs. Mesquite Skeeters

The Lancaster Tigers are taking a road trip to challenge the Mesquite Skeeters at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Neither Lancaster nor Mesquite posted many points in their last games, so it might be the defenses that decide this one.

Lancaster is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Duncanville on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Tigers lost 35-10 to the Panthers and Pantherettes. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 54th, while the Panthers and Pantherettes are ranked third).

Despite the loss, Lancaster saw an underclassman step up: freshman Rj On Top picked up 115 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Meanwhile, Mesquite was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 13-10 heartbreaker at the hands of Skyline.

Mesquite's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Lancaster, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Everything came up roses for Lancaster against Mesquite when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 45-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
