Frankton has gone 9-1 against Elwood recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Eagles will square off against the Panthers at 5:00 p.m.
Frankton is headed into the contest having just suffered their closest defeat since May 4th on Thursday. They fell just short of Maconaquah by a score of 4-2. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Frankton saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caden Jones, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Elwood can bid farewell to their seven-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over Daleville. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Panthers considering their two-run performance the game before.
Zaine Wright made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over 5.2 innings pitched. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had over his last five matchups. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Elwood: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-16 otherwise.
In other batting news, Bentlee Pierce was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
Elwood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Elwood's win bumped their record up to 8-17. As for Frankton, their loss dropped their record down to 10-12.
Frankton skirted past Elwood 3-2 in their previous meeting back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
