Basketball Recap: Grand Island Central Catholic Comes Up Short

Grand Island Central Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 48-44 heartbreaker at the hands of the Broken Bow Indians. The Crusaders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Loss or not, Grand Island Central Catholic got some senior leadership from Bryndal Moody and Anna Tibbetts. Moody went 6-for-10 to rack up 15 points in addition to eight rebounds and seven steals, while Tibbetts went 6-for-7 on her way to 13 points along with five assists and three steals. The dominant performance also gave Tibbetts a new career-high in field goal percentage (86%). Maggie Herbek was another key player, putting up six points and five boards.

Grand Island Central Catholic's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 11-12. As for Broken Bow, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 18-5.

Grand Island Central Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Broken Bow, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 73-53 loss against Milford on the 21st.
