Recap: Bonita Bearcats vs. Ayala Bulldogs

In what's become a running theme this season, the Bonita Bearcats gave their fans yet another huge victory on Wednesday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 65-33 win over Ayala. Given Bonita's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 149th, while Ayala is ranked 462nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Bonita was led to victory by Lexi Mercado and Tressa Beatty. Mercado scored 18 points along with nine rebounds and two steals, while Beatty scored 17 points along with six assists and four steals. That's the first time this season that Beatty scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Brooke Van Duyne, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds.

Bonita is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. As for Ayala, their loss was their sixth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 8-12.

Bonita will be playing in front of their home fans against Claremont at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Ayala on the road again on Friday and play against Alta Loma at 5:30 p.m. on January 12th. Alta Loma comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last four games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
