Basketball Recap: Polytechnic Piles Up the Points Against Westridge

Polytechnic had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32.8 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They breezed past the Westridge Tigers to the tune of 66-8. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Panthers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 187th, while the Tigers are ranked 1034th).

Polytechnic's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Maggie Scholze, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 11 boards. What's more, Scholze also posted a 60% shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in December of 2025. Areni Ohanian was another key player, dropping a triple-double with ten points, 15 rebounds, and 11 assists.

Polytechnic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 25 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Polytechnic's win bumped their record up to 18-5. As for Westridge, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Polytechnic will venture away from home to face off against Ramona Convent at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Westridge, they will challenge Flintridge Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
