Softball Recap: Sandy Creek Patriots vs. Upson-Lee Knights

Sandy Creek had lost five straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 4-10 to make it six. They came up short against the Upson-Lee Knights, falling 17-2. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Patriots couldn't push the score so high this time.

Sandy Creek saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brielle Thompson, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run. Ava Oliver was another, getting on base in both of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

As for Upson-Lee, their record is now 3-12. Considering their hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

On Upson-Lee's side, Jamayah Carthon made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. In other batting news, Upson-Lee got a massive performance out of Carsen Barfield, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Barfield a new career-high. Kate Weason also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Coming up, Sandy Creek will be playing at home against Trinity Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Upson-Lee, they will head out on the road to challenge Peach County at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Trojans will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Knights surely won't give up without a fight.
