Basketball Recap: Sotomayor Comes Up Short

If Sotomayor was feeling good fresh off their 61-31 takedown of Maywood Academy last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Sotomayor Wolves came up short against the Marquez Gladiators on Monday, falling 58-32. The defeat continues a trend for the Wolves in their matchups with the Gladiators: they've now lost four in a row.

Corshell Vaughn continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Marquez, dropping a double-double with 26 points and 25 rebounds. Vaughn is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down 11 or more in the last 38 games she's played dating back to last season. Magaly Gonzalez was another key player, going 8 for 18 on her way to 16 points and five rebounds.

Sotomayor's loss dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Marquez, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 16-7.

Coming up, Sotomayor will take on Maywood CES at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Maywood CES's defense has only allowed 25.8 points per game this season, so Sotomayor's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Marquez, they will square off against Elizabeth at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Elizabeth has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
