Basketball Recap: Cabrillo Comes Up Short

Cabrillo extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 22 on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-21. They were dealt a 61-22 defeat at the hands of the Santa Ynez Pirates. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Pirates this season, with their most recent loss being a 69-32 defeat back in January.

Sophia Rodriguez was Cabrillo's leading scorer, having posted six points.

As for Santa Ynez, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 11-9 record. They have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 22 points or more this season.

Santa Ynez's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Leighton Casey, who went 6-for-11 to rack up 12 points and four steals. Those 12 points gave Casey a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jazmine Juarez, who posted ten points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Cabrillo wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 64-9 loss against Morro Bay on the 6th. As for Santa Ynez, they have also already played their next game, a 40-26 defeat against Atascadero on the 5th.
