Basketball Recap: Riverside Find Success

Riverside hasn't had quite the year their fans were hoping for to this point, but back-to-back wins may be a sign of good things to come. They walked away with a 46-38 victory over the Newman Grove/St. Edward Panthers on Tuesday.

Grace Mahony went supernova for Riverside, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten steals. The dominant performance also gave Mahony a new career-high in assists (seven). Tessa Weltruski was another key player, putting up ten points in addition to five steals and three blocks.

Riverside was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

When it comes to explaining why Newman Grove/St. Edward lost, don't look at Kailey Patzel. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 20 points and 21 rebounds. Patzel is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least nine every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Allyx Forre, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 13 rebounds.

Riverside's win bumped their record up to 5-14. As for Newman Grove/St. Edward, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-17.

Riverside will take on Nebraska Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Riverside has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
