Basketball Recap: Mission Bay Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Haley Shanks and Imani Cosby

Mission Bay was the 57-28 winner over El Cajon Valley when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Mission Bay Buccaneers took a 39-26 hit to the loss column at the hands of the El Cajon Valley Braves on Wednesday.

Mission Bay's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Imani Cosby, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Haley Shanks, who posted six points. What's more, Cosby also posted a 50% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's posted since back in December of 2024.

Asia Marie Dixon was her usual excellent self, shooting 4-for-7 from deep and dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten boards for El Cajon Valley. Dixon also grabbed six steals, which is notable because El Cajon Valley is 9-2 when she posts at least three steals, but 4-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Onnamarie Miller, who earned nine points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

Mission Bay dropped their record down to 4-15 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for El Cajon Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 13-9.

Mission Bay didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 48-33 loss against Coronado on the 7th. As for El Cajon Valley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 77-34 win against Valhalla on the 7th.
