Recap: Neumann Regional Academy Golden Knights vs. South Williamsport Mountaineers
The Neumann Regional Academy Golden Knights waltzed into their match on Friday with 12 straight wins but they left with 13. They came out on top against South Williamsport by a score of 50-37. Given Neumann Regional Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 260th, while South Williamsport is ranked 547th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
GiGi Parlante was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 22 points and 18 rebounds. She continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Lizzie Weller was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 11 rebounds and five steals.
Several Mountaineers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ella Moore, who scored 14 points along with five assists. Another player making a difference was Abby Akers, who scored 13 points along with five steals and three blocks.
Neumann Regional Academy pushed their record up to 17-4 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.2 points per game. As for South Williamsport, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-14.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Neumann Regional Academy will square off against Line Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Line Mountain will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Neumann Regional Academy surely won't give up without a fight. As for South Williamsport, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Sullivan County at 1:30 p.m. on February 10th. Hopefully South Williamsport focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Friday.
