Soccer Game Preview: Independence vs. Benton

Independence is 0-6 against Benton since April of 2015 but things could change on Thursday. The Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bobcats at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Independence's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They won by a goal and slipped past Vinton-Shellsburg 1-0. The game was the first time Independence have beaten Vinton-Shellsburg on their pitch since April 24, 2017.

Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, Benton brought some dynamite into their most recent game. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over West Delaware on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for Benton in their matchups with West Delaware: they've now won five in a row.

Independence's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Benton, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2-1.

Independence might still be hurting after the 5-0 loss they got from Benton in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
