Basketball Recap: Horace Mann UCLA Community Takes a Loss

Horace Mann UCLA Community and Diego Rivera squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Horace Mann UCLA Community had to settle for second. They were outmatched by the Diego Rivera Huskies and fell 59-8. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1329th, while the Huskies are ranked 579th).

Horace Mann UCLA Community got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of Aaliyah Jones and Di'Ore Drayton, who each put up three points.

Diego Rivera was led to victory by Brianna Collins and Desiree Aguillon. Collins posted 29 points in addition to eight rebounds and seven steals, while Aguillon scored 18 points along with six steals and five assists. Collins has been hot for a while, having posted three or more steals the last 41 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Da'Leja Dodd, who put up eight points and six boards.

Horace Mann UCLA Community's defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-14. As for Diego Rivera, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-6.

Horace Mann UCLA Community does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Diego Rivera, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 63-33 victory against Panorama on the 21st.
