Basketball Recap: JW North Comes Up Short

JW North lost against Canyon Springs back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The JW North Huskies were outmatched by the Canyon Springs Cougars and fell 56-21. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1107th, while the Cougars are ranked 487th).

Despite the loss, JW North saw an underclassman step up: freshman Avery Aguilar posted six points in addition to five rebounds and five steals. That's the most steals Aguilar has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Tamari Owens, who had no points along with seven boards and four steals.

Canyon Springs' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Izabella Tejada, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Tejada is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaleayah Marshall, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 20 rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for JW North and nudges their season record down to 6-18. As for Canyon Springs, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 19-5.

JW North does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Canyon Springs, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 50-41 defeat against Hemet on the 5th.
