Basketball Recap: Elliot Keverline Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat St. Joseph

After losing to St. Joseph the last time they met, Aquinas Academy decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Aquinas Academy Crusaders took down the St. Joseph Spartans 50-31 on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Crusaders.

Aquinas Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Elliot Keverline out in front who posted 11 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Tess Duer, who put up 13 points and four steals.

Aquinas Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in nine consecutive games.

Aquinas Academy is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.8 points per game. As for St. Joseph, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Aquinas Academy will challenge Leechburg at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Aquinas Academy is facing Leechburg at the right time seeing as Leechburg is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for St. Joseph, they will take on Sewickley Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
