Basketball Recap: Nucla's Win on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Nucla put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 59-47 win over the Monticello Buckaroo. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Mustangs also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2023.

Nucla was led to victory by Brycen Rummel and Holten McCluer. Rummel shot 50% from the field to rack up 19 points in addition to eight steals and seven assists, while McCluer went 9-for-13 en route to 21 points and five boards. Rummel is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 32 games he's played dating back to last season. Austin Garvey was another key player, going 5-for-8 on his way to 11 points.

Nucla's record now sits at 8-0. As for Monticello, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Nucla and Ridgway will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:30 p.m. on January 8, 2026. As for Monticello, they will head out to take on Dolores at 6:30 p.m. on January 6, 2026.
