Basketball Recap: Yuba City Takes a Loss

Yuba City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 36-32 heartbreaker at the hands of the Del Campo Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 35-34 back in January.

Despite the loss, Yuba City still got an impressive performance from Juliana Vasquez, who went 9-for-16 on her way to 14 points. Vasquez continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Avery Barr was another key player, putting up seven points.

Del Campo got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Zenallah Hatcher-Simmons out in front who posted 11 points. The dominant performance also gave Hatcher-Simmons a new career-high in field goal percentage (67%). Another player making a difference was Mira Rommelfanger, who had 11 points.

Yuba City's loss dropped their record down to 5-18. As for Del Campo, their victory bumped their record up to 7-17.

Yuba City didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 35-25 defeat against Placer on the 11th. As for Del Campo, they have also already played their next match, a 43-39 loss against Western Sierra Collegiate Academy on the 10th.
