Baseball Recap: Sumter County Takes a Loss

Sumter County extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping them down to 6-14. They came up short against the Jordan Red Jackets, falling 15-3. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 20-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2025.

As for Jordan, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-12 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games.

For Jordan's part, Bradley Smith made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. Smith has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jared Carter, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Glenn Edmondson, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

While Sumter County had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
