Preview: Soquel Knights vs. St. Francis Sharks
Soquel is 10-0 against St. Francis since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Soquel Knights will look to defend their home court against the St. Francis Sharks at 7:00 p.m.
Last Monday, Soquel was the victim of a rough 54-31 defeat at the hands of Monte Vista Christian. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Soquel in their matchups with Monte Vista Christian: they've now lost three in a row.
Meanwhile, St. Francis entered their tilt with Santa Catalina with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. St. Francis simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat Santa Catalina 50-16 on the road. With St. Francis ahead 24-4 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
St. Francis found their leader in underclassman Maya Calfee, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 10 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Calfee has scored at least 25% of St. Francis' points. Another player making a difference was Emily Raich, who scored 12 points along with 7 steals.
Westmont's victory bumped their season record to 0-0 while Soquel's loss dropped theirs to 0-1.
Everything went Soquel's way against St. Francis when the teams last played back in November of 2022 as Soquel made off with a 51-25 victory. Will Soquel repeat their success, or does St. Francis have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
