Softball Recap: Wilcox County Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Wilcox County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Telfair County Trojans 5-4. The victory was nothing new for the Patriots as they're now sitting on five straight.

Zariah Martin and Ava McGinnis did most of the damage at the plate: Martin went 4-for-5 with three runs and one double, while McGinnis went 4-for-5 with three RBI and one double. Those four hits gave Martin a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamauri Martin, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.

Wilcox County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .447. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Telfair County only posted a batting average of .194.

Wilcox County's win bumped their record up to 9-7. As for Telfair County, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 10-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wilcox County will square off against Treutlen at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Patriots' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 8.6 runs per game this season. As for Telfair County, they will be playing at home against Jeff Davis at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
