Basketball Recap: Gianna Woodson Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat University City

There's no place like home for San Diego, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They put the hurt on the University City Centurions with a sharp 65-39 victory on Tuesday. The Cavers pushed the score to 54-21 by the end of the third, a deficit the Centurions cut but never quite recovered from.

San Diego's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gianna Woodson led the charge by dropping a double-double on 21 points and ten steals. The dominant performance gave Woodson a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Seniaah Simms, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 18 rebounds.

San Diego smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 16 offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.

When it comes to explaining why University City lost, don't look at Kami Demara. Despite the final result, she posted 11 points in addition to five boards and four blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Courtlyn Mitchell, who earned seven points along with six rebounds and six steals.

San Diego is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-12 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.5 points per game. As for University City, they now have a losing record at 10-11.
